The team @ People over Plastic express our unwavering solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza and call on Biden and the US Congress to demand an immediate ceasefire, and demand that humanitarian assistance be allowed in the Gaza Strip. As of November 7th, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reported 10,000 Gazans have died in the last four weeks, noting a majority of the deaths were women and children. The relentless bombing of vital infrastructure - including hospitals, schools, mosques, churches, bakeries, water supplies, and the disruption of essential services have created an urgent humanitarian and environmental catastrophe. We condemn the senseless violence that exacerbates this crisis, gravely hindering efforts to build resilient communities and undermining fundamental human rights

As a multimedia platform dedicated to environmental justice and anti-colonialism, we acknowledge the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people, support their struggle for self-determination and liberation, and work towards a just and lasting resolution based on equality, respect for human rights, and international law.

We also recognize that many of our colleagues working in various fields, including environmental advocacy, are silenced or hesitant to speak out due to fear of professional repercussions. We unite in solidarity with those who choose to raise their voices, knowing the risks they take, and we encourage others to overcome the fear that stifles their advocacy for justice. We firmly believe that fostering a culture of open dialogue and protecting the right to speak out without fear of reprisal is essential in advancing environmental justice and combating colonial oppression.

We are firm in our commitment to creating a world where environmental justice and freedom from oppression are ideals and lived realities for all. Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones in Israel and Palestine, and all those who are still living under the threat of violence today.

If there were ever a time to join us, it is now. Every contribution, however big or small, powers our BIPOC-produced storytelling and sustains our future. Support PoP from as little as $1 – it only takes a minute. Thank you.
